Round One in Orange

September means cooler nights, shorter days and a lot of foggy mornings.  It also means we get to play with all of our orange scraps. I pulled out my scraps and sorted out the ones I thought would be good for the 6" orange blocks and saw tooth star points for the orange row.

I thought these would give me a fair range but then I stopped by a neighbouring community Quilt Shop and found these:
Don't you just love the orange and pink fabrics.  I couldn't resist and had to buy a fat quarter of each to use for the RSC blocks.  I think these will transition beautifully into the red/pink row.  I know we're to use scraps up but well, once I saw it, I had to have some!

I stitched up my Boxy star block and managed to use up almost all of the batik with the squares.  Just a 26" x 1" strip and three 2.5" squares left.

Looking forward to seeing how you started off your orange month and waiting for an orange block post from one of my favourite scrappy quilters, Angela

On another note,  I was taking some pictures in my garden last week and I got this incredible photo:

That little humming bird was just aiming to get at the Rose of Sharon.  My camera isn't the fastest so I was amazed that I got the bird before it darted away.

Great photo! You were quick; he'd have been off before I got my lens cap off! Lovely orange block too and I love your acquisitions. I buy fat quarters in the month's colours sometimes too; we have to build our stash somehow, don't we?

Your new fabrics are quite lovely. Excellent choices!

I like that combo of fabrics in your Boxy Star. I've been working on a couple of quilts with pink and orange only because those are colors a granddaughter likes.

Pretty shades of orange. I love your bento blocks. I watch the hummingbirds while I sew.

Very pretty orange fabrics. I've added a few fat quarters here and there for the scrap challenge. I just don't make orange quilts very often. Love the shot of the humming bird. They are very hard to get shots of.

Hummingbirds will only be around here for another week or so. Time flies! And I love the boxy fabric inside the boxy star. They combine well with your stripes.

Your block is so Interesting with the use of the stripes, a good choice. As for orange, it becomes peach when white is added, so the two go well with red, I think. The hummingbirds are back here in WI, fattening up for their incredible trip to Costa Rica, across the Gulf of Mexico.

Great catch with the camera! I have a hummingbird who checks out the red beads I have hanging inside my studio window periodically. Fortunately there's a rose bush right under the window too so occasionally he finds something to eat when he stops by.

I suspect we have very similar taste in fabrics/colors! I also love orange and pink. I already own at least one of the fat quarters you bought, and I believe I also have some of that batik with the boxy pattern in it. :- )

Beautiful orange prints. I often pull from my stash if I need some variety in the RSC. I need the quilts I'm making for gifts and charity and I want the to be nice for both.

I love those boxy stars. You have a great variety of orange to work with.

Going Neutral

This year I opted for 4 different RSC projects.  All of the colours to date have worked well with the blocks but light neutrals will be a ch...
